Research
Before designing something new, it's important to do your research and have a thorough understanding of the area you'll be working in. This includes such things as:
- Researching who the competition is
- Researching what competing products you're up against
- Researching what products if any you'll be replacing
- Researching any specific restraints such as marketing requirements
There are a multitude of additional things to consider as well, but this gives the idea. This research should be synthesized into specific documents, like an MRD (marketing requirements document) or a competitive analysis document.
